Active Listening Portfolio Sample

Description: In class, we decided to make a video on listening. There are 3 types of listening; busy listening, me too listening and active listening.

Big Idea: Busy Listening is a type of listening where the talker is talking about something, but the listener isn't focused on listening, (e.g, playing a game on your iPad). Me Too Listening is a type of listening where the talker is talking about something, (e.g, what you did on the weekend), and the listener is interrupting saying what they did on the weekend. Active listening is when the talker is talking about what they did on the weekend, and the listener is paying full attention and asking questions.

Feedback & Feedforward: to be some where hiding so you can get it in like a move. Jack

Evaluation: I think next time we shouldn't shoot the movie next to Poutokomanawa, because they were a bit loud.

Waitangi Day

Description: In class, we have been making projects about Waitangi Day. I made a movie about Waitangi Day. We did it because it Was Waitangi Day a couple of weeks ago.

Big Idea: What I learned about doing this post is Waitangi Day is a very special occasion for a reason. The reason is that the 'Treaty of Waitangi' is the founding document of New Zealand. The process I went through is 1st: I made a storyboard. 2nd: I made a couple of treaties with A3 paper with some brown on it, and I crunched it up and ripped it. 3rd: I got Houston and Juven to act in my movie for signing the treaty and the British Government scene. 4th: I went on Google and found some images to put on my movie. 5th: I went around the school and did some more recording, including the chicken scene. 6th: I did voice overs and started editing. 7th: I had to record a couple more scenes that didn't come out alright. 8th: I uploaded the video to YouTube.

Feedback/Feedforward: I like the way that you learnt something about the treaty of Waitangi.
I think that you could make a bigger description to explain more. Shaiv

Evaluation: This task also helped me with a numberless amount of other reasons, but I didn't know very much about the Treaty of Waitangi at the beginning of the task, but now doing research gave me a good understanding about the Treaty.

Waitangi Day Questions

Description: We are doing this task because our National Holiday, Waitangi Day is this Saturday.
We want to create open questions about this, which are questions that aren't a basic answer, like Yes, or No.

Questions:

Why did they create the Treaty in waitangi and not in another place?
What is so special about the treaty?
How did they get mixed up with the English and Maōri treaty?
Where is the treaty kept today?
Why did the Europeans treat NZ and Australia differently?
How did people come up with the Idea of Waitangi Day instead of another commemoration?
Why did the Europeans take over ALL the land?
Why did they make Waitangi Day a public holiday and so short?

One Word for 2016

Description: In class, we have been thing about one word to be our New Years Resolution, instead of having 4 or 5.

So, what is my inspirational word, you may be thinking? Well, my word is 'Intentional'. And why? Because last year, I wanted to do a lot of things, but either I didn't complete it, or I was very slow. This will help me because I am quite impatient, so I can have something to get me moving, and to do things I want to do in my own life, like coding video games. So that is my word and why I chose it.

P.S Happy New Year!!!
